A few days ago I found a Christmas present behind the sofa, which shows how much I clean. The gorgeous Saks Fifth Avenue box with the red grosgrain must have been flung there during the mailstrom that is Christmas. Anyway, I opened it. Here's a little video about it and its brilliant, charming, one-off creator. I like the part about how he makes snow from Marian Bantjes snow printers on his paws. 2+3D Magazine
a Polish Design Quarterly Jacek Mrowczyk at 2+3D, a Polish Design Quarterly, has just informed me that they're about to put out an iPad version of their archive in English, and that my article for them, "Cutie and the Deck Shoes," will be in it! Finally, America will thrill to my take on D-Schools and Crowdsourcing, which were two hot new things when I wrote the piece.

Excellent News! Susan Szenasy, above, Editor-in-Chief of Metropolis Magazine ( the award-winning New York City-based magazine of architecture and design) and Robert Hull, below, ( internationally-acclaimed Seattle architect who believes in socially-responsible and humane architecture) will be jurors for the 2013 Cornish College of the Arts Design for Social Change Prize. These champions of environmental design join our own Julie Myers, ASID, Cornish Design Faculty, and Grant Donesky, Cornish Design Chair, to complete the 2013 panel of judges. The DSC Prize, a cash prize of $500 dollars, is awarded for work created in a two-week team charrette open to all Cornish College students, no matter what their majors. The charrette concludes January 24 at 5:00 pm.

I wrote a short column for CA recently: Typeblots: Bear, Butterfly, S'more? For some reason, people keep asking me who the "unnamed type teacher" is in the article. He's Ricky Castro, a charming and demanding teacher of type here at Cornish College of the Arts. Ricky is a partner in the interactive design studio IF/THEN. (http://ifthen.com) He's the guy spearheading the effort to get more and more type into the curriculum here. And his efforts are bearing fruit. You really can't say you're a graphic designer if you don't handle type as easily as you breathe. Only practice makes this possible. Practice with people like Ricky. 
I'm already missing former teaching assistant Sean Williams, who's gone on to larger challenges.
